THE SCREAM ANT

Every ordinary life deserves to be seen.

02 — THE WORK 作品THE WORK

160,000 bricks —
how a mass of tiny parts gives emotion a shape.

A worker ant, once so insignificant as to be overlooked, is transformed into a 2.5-metre brick monolith, frozen into a silent scream. 160,000 bricks — like 160,000 fragments of smallness — converge into a resounding resonance.

Bricks are 'physical voxels': every grandeur in this world is built from countless tiny units — each one appears the same, yet is one of a kind. The order and cooperation of the ant colony is an epic that truly runs: it is precisely because each plays its part that greatness beyond the individual is born.

That scream is an invitation — within greatness, there is each of us. When you meet its gaze, what is seen is not only the ant, but every ordinary thing you take for granted yet have never truly looked at — and they all deserve to be seen by the world.

The work stands 2.5 metres high, 1.08 metres wide and 0.96 metres deep.

"From screen to classroom to brick — for me this is not a pivot, but the same path continued through different media."

Visiting Professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, PhD, member of the Hong Kong Artists Association. A cross-disciplinary artist and researcher specializing in AI + digital art and immersive interactive creation. His work spans AI art, VR/AR mixed reality, digital imagery, and gamified art design — fusing technology with contemporary aesthetics through AI algorithms and big data.

His interactive works include “Sanfang Qixiang,” “Spark 1929,” and “Flower Sea.” He has participated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ global promotion of Fujian, the major thematic exhibition “Hong Kong: A Century of Greatness,” and the large-scale group exhibition “Landscapes as Paintings” hosted by the Hong Kong Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the CAA Hong Kong Members Branch, and the HKAA. He has also exhibited at Art Basel Hong Kong’s digital film section for two consecutive years (Closer and Bigger, Future Living Room: Art Corner), and created collaborative designer toy works with NCOSMOS (星際熊).

The world often labels him — a gaming pioneer, a driver of digital education, an art collector. Yet these are only facets. No single label can capture the whole of him. Rather than a legend, DJ is better understood as a long-term state: a continuous and stable curiosity. Watching films and studying narrative; building with bricks and taking structures apart; appreciating art and feeling form and proportion. It is this enduring curiosity that drives his cross-disciplinary creative practice — from games to education to art, a single unbroken thread, where reflection on narrative and philosophy flows ceaselessly into artistic inspiration.
